Type the following:
> cd /opt
> tar xvfz ~/abiword_mipsel.tgz

edit the file /opt/AbiSuite/bin/AbiWord
and change the line that starts with ABISUITE_HOME to:

ABISUITE_HOME=/opt/AbiSuite

then to run AbiWord, type: 
> /opt/AbiSuite/bin/AbiWord

or add the path to your PATH enviromnent variable.
